WHOA! The Holy Spirit is here with us and we felt him starting first thing this morning! What a day!
After a delicious breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs and sausage gravy, we jumped right into the word and had worship. This morning we spent time in Joshua Chapter 2 learning about Rahab and how she helped the spies who were sent by Joshua to Jericho, prior to the seven days and the wall coming down. Why Rahab? Well, you see, Rahab was a prostitute. You read it right, a prostitute. God used a prostitute to help his people and Rahab was willing to lie to the King's soldiers to help the spies, because she had heard of how God had been helping the Israelites as they were being led to the promised land.. Why is this important to us? You see, God doesn't care about what we were or used to be, he wants and desires a relationship with us. He wants to redeem us and make us new again, just like he did Rahab. He wants to use us. When he looked at Rahab, he didn't see a prostitute, he saw a woman with a tender heart who feared him and he saw a woman who was worthy. He sees us as worthy and he loves us. He wants to bless us and use us to further his kingdom.! He sees his children! What a great father he is! What a great love to be desired and wanted. I told them that once we are saved, we are able to say "I am not who I once was because the one who died for me, sacrificed for me, has given me a new name and that name is daughter/son of the one TRUE KING!" Hallelujah!
After a lunch of cheese quesadillas, we put on our swimsuits and went tubing down the river. We laughed, some us fell out of the tube (me), some jumped in the river from the rock, some got stuck and had to get back into the flow of the river, but above all else, we had FUN! We delighted in God's creation. NO phones, NO distractions, just cool water and a slow ride. It really gives you time to think, reflect and just delight in the LORD!
After a two hour ride on the tubes and a ride back on the bus, we all were tired. Many of us took cat naps, relaxed and rested. That's a part of being on retreat. Getting rested and ready to fight life's battles. Thanks to Todd and Haley, we had some pretty awesome grilled hot dogs with homemade slaw and chili! We watched the series "AD" and about Jesus' crucifixion as we filled our bellies.
After supper, we began worship and spent time in 2 Chronicles Chapter 14. We learned of King Asa and how he wanted to rule over Judah by focusing on God and following God's will, unlike his predecessor, his father. Because of King Asa removing the idols and statues of the gods of fertility and commanding Judah to worship God and seek his will, Judah was able to live in peace for the first time in a long time. We talked about how we as Christians should pursue a life that is Godly. That we have to remove the distractions from our life that is preventing us from focusing on God and his will for our lives. We talked about the distractions and how we should remove them and "clean house" just as King Asa did in Judah. During our time of invitation, I watched as hearts began to open and these babies started letting the Holy Spirit move in them. I stand in awe of how good God is! Keep praying for us as we continue on this journey of growing closer to him.
Let's hear what Team Two has to say about today:
This morning at worship, we learned about how the Israelies sent spies to Jerico to scope out the city. During this adventure, the spies were helped by an unlikely source, a prostitute named Rahab. Tubing was awesome and we enjoyed seeing and admiring God's creation. While tubing, a few of us got stuck on rocks and had to get help from complete strangers which could symbolize us getting distracted in our faith and needing help from God to pull us out of our hardships. At tonight's service, we learned about how Asa was fearless in his leadership and lead many people to Christ by getting rid of distractions so he could focus on what God had in store for his life. In all, we learned a lot about building walls to keep us from the worldly distractions and temptations.
We are settling in for the night. We are tired, but a good tired. Keep praying for us!
We love you.
